Venice is the capital of Italy’s Venato region and its winding canals and handsome gothic architecture have cemented its place as one of the most visited cities in the world.

With so much to see and do, it’s hard to know where to start exploring. A free walking tour provide a great opportunity to get your bearings and tick off many top sites. The Basilica San Marco is well worth a visit and you can’t beat people watching in the Piazza San Marco. For a bird’s eye view of the city, head up the Campanile for superb views all the way out to the Dolomites.

No trip to Venice is complete without a gondola ride, but with several kayaking tours available, we think we’ve found our new favourite way of exploring the myriad of waterways.

With a labyrinth of bridges, courtyards and cobbled streets to explore, it’s easy to escape the masses and get to know the real Venice. Sample authentic Italian fodder at I Tre Mercanti and unwind after a day of exploring with gelato and a spritz

Arguably one of the world’s most romantic cities, a trip to Venice is one that should be on your bucket list.
